Our model is backdropped by a porch with a much darker value.  In reality, she is deep inside a shadow formed  by the dark value of the wood, while just out of frame is undesirable direct light.  Strategy - position model in the shade, while illuminating the immediate foreground with a single on-camera speedlight (flash) equipped with a Profusion Flash Diffuser.  The trick is to draw more attention to the model, and less attention to the light by using as little light as possible.
